Carbs are, undoubtedly, delicious. Yet, if you’ve looked anywhere on the internet in the past 10 years, which, you probably have, you know that they’re not exactly good for you if you’re dieting.

And carbs are especially tough to cut out because they’re everywhere. They’re in bread, pasta, sugar, and beer just to name a few. So, it seems like it’s very hard for an average diner to cut these out of your meals. In fact, it seems impossible unless you have Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s personal chef.

Have no fear, though! We’ve got some great spots for you that have awesome vegetable alternatives to carbs that will keep your stomach satisfied and keep the extra layers off of it.


The a great town we’re going to head to to look at some alternatives to classic carbs is the one, the only, Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, there’s a great vegan bistro called Sage Vegan Bistro that serves up some wicked awesome alternatives to classic carbs.

When you’re craving something “carby”, order the Cauliflower Wings. The Cauliflower Wings are tempura cauliflower in spicy buffalo, sweet and sour, or BBQ with a side of celery, carrots, and ranch. It’s delicious, and doesn’t have all the bread that’s on normal wings.

Another great option from Sage Vegan Bistro is the Jackfruit Stuffed Avocado. It’s two avocado halves stuffed with  jackfruit ‘carnitas’, topped with cilantro, onion and a vegan habanero cream ‘cheese’. It’s a great alternative to classic carbs, and the food is prepared so expertly, you won’t even be able to tell that it’s vegan.

The next spot we have for you is the Jinya Ramen Bar. Jinya Ramen Bar is a gourmet restaurant that serves up some great veggie dishes that are nice substitutes for carbs.

When you order from Jinya Ramen Bar, a great option to choose is the Spicy Tofu Salad, which is composed of cold tofu topped with finely chopped onion, kikurage, and green onion topped with roasted sesame seeds, kizami nori, and a spicy chili sauce. It’s tasty, and it’ll leave you guilt-free over carbs.

Another excellent option from Jinya Ramen Bar is the Jinya Quinoa Salad. It’s got baby greens, green kale, broccoli, and white quinoa with kidney beans, garbanzo beans, tossed in a sesame dressing. The quinoa does have carbs, but a lot of it’s fiber, so you’ll get the carb taste, but the healthy benefits of the fiber!

The final place we’ve got for you in Los Angeles to help with your low-carb diet is East Garden Restaurant. East Garden Restaurant as a vast assortment of delicious items that have nice veggie carb alternatives, but we’re going to give a little love to one of their breakfast options.

If you’re craving a low-carb breakfast, order tomato with scrambled egg. The eggs are seasoned and fluffy, and the tomato is a delicious, juicy, seared alternative to carb-heavy hashbrowns!
